What You Need To Know About Overdrafts And Overdraft Fees
An overdraft occurs when an item You (“You” is defined as any account owner) authorize is presented for payment and it exceeds the available balance in your account. We can cover your overdrafts in the following ways:
- We have standard overdraft practices.
- We have Overdraft Privilege that may come with your account, as long as your account meets the qualifications and You opt in.
- We also offer an Overdraft Protection (ODP) Transfer, which is offered when You have both a checking and a savings account. The amount of funds necessary to cover an overdraft(s) will automatically be withdrawn from the savings account and transferred to the checking account up to the available balance. This option may be less expensive than our other practices. To learn more, please inquire.
Please note that fees detailed below, may apply.
What are the standard overdraft practices?
We may authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of items:
- Checks
- ACH transactions
- Other electronic means (automatic bill payments)
We do not authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions unless You ask us to, and your account(s) qualifies for Overdraft Privilege:
- ATM transactions *
- Everyday Debit Card transactions *
*Until your account qualifies for Overdraft Privilege, we will not authorize and pay an overdraft for these transactions, your transaction will be declined, and You will not incur a fee. See below for details on Overdraft Privilege.
We pay overdrafts at our discretion, which means we do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay any type of transaction.
What is Overdraft Privilege?
This is an optional service we may provide, upon qualification, to cover transaction(s) that You have authorized and that exceed the available balance in your account upon presentment for payment. You must first opt-in to this discretionary service in order for your account to be reviewed for qualification. Once your account qualifies for this service, we will provide You with the disclosure that describes the service in full. There are fees associated with this service that are detailed below.
Please note there is a 60-day qualification period for this service. During this time, the standard overdraft practices will apply.
